One more note on the synchronization with GoodSync.

Somehow, GoodSync manages to upload files to SharePoint in a way that doesn't change any file's size after uploading. This seems to have to do with GoodSync using the Microsoft Graph interface.

I have just found out and tested that at least GoodSync seems to be able to solve the present issue.

It's mainly my fault, as I only just saw that the thread title says that the file extension (and date) should also be ignored.

Therefore, it probably makes sense to create a separate topic, which I have done here.

Yes please, that would extend the usability of FreeFileSync considerably.

I would actually prefer a variant "File time and name", thus ignoring file size on comparison.

Nope. I have been installing hundreds of portable programs on a second internal hard drive for decades, and this has survived many generations of Windows OSes, not to mention uncountable OS reinstalls.

Okay, then I guess there is also no way to "add" the files in question (with lightnings and green arrows) to the set of files with orange lightnings, so that these two groups form a set together for future runs that can then be hidden via the orange lightning button?

I think the developer believes that the new tree view is a stroke of genius, which it is in a certain sense. If you only have short paths and many files changed in each path, the new tree view mode probably works very well.

But the conflicts button only hides the orange lightnings and not the lightnings with the green arrows.

And if I press the button with the green arrow showing "11", while this will hide the corresponding 11 files as shown above, it will also hide all other files that should be copied to the right ...

Please. Even after weeks and months of daily use, I just can't figure out what this means.

I know this has been changed with the best of intents, but the directory view is simply terrible with anything but very short paths.

True, but I wished there was a better way of showing that just a folder's name has changed, other than showing each single of the 500 unchanged files contained in that folder two times as "changed" in different places...

This is unrelated to the thread topic. That long list is likely showing a 'move' action for each of those files, since the parent folder name is changed.

Puh, if it's unrelated, the problem is even more severe since then it is implied that FFS shows 2 times 500 files as changed when actually ...

As an update, this is what the SharePoint sync looks for me when someone has renamed 1 or 2 folders on the local server...

And that's only about a third of the length of the FreeFileSync preview window.

Is that probably all down to SharePoint changing the file sizes online?

Perhaps it is possible ...

This is what the grid usually looks for me when a folder has been rearranged by creating some subfolders and moving stuff to them. Only like 10 files might actually have changed here.

I could be too dumb, but for me there is no way to see what is going to be happening on sync.

I also tested renaming the subfolder and it performed the same actions: Create new folder, move files, delete empty original folder.

Do these actions each show up in the same respective rows in the sync preview?

Meaning, do you get one row for each file that is going to be moved, or two ...

In my case, unfortunately, the original folder is even synchronized backwards and the renamed folder is synchronized forwards, so that afterwards both the original folder and the renamed folder are present on both sides 😮

Interesting that you mention that Syncovery can do that. I had used Syncovery myself literally for decades, but I still never could figure out which of its zillion of settings (combinations) to use.

I'm now using GoodSync for other reasons, however GoodSync also can't sync hardlinks, symlinks etc ...

I have the same problem here. Trying to sync two huge folders, full of subfolders and files with tens of thousands of differences.

FreeFileSync shows 18! files. And ALL of them are named "descript.ion" -- which I even excluded in the exclusion filter!

There is something terribly wrong going on ...

Nirsoft's FolderTimeUpdate is a simple tool for Windows that scans all files and folders under the base folder you choose, and updates the 'Modified Time' of every folder according the latest modified time of the files stored in it.
