Update and final resolution...
The issue does indeed seem to have been a network issue. Without going into all the sordid details, I simplified the network configuration on both the source and destination and gave my hypervisor a separate network interface rather than share an interface with the ...

Re: Using the option to compare file contents yields false comparison errors
New information on the above issue:
I have compared 2 folders that FreeFileSync has replicated. These folders are on two different PCs so the comparison is happening over the network. Each folder holds about 68GB of data with file sizes ranging from 544KB to about 5GB.

Using the option to compare file contents yields false comparison errors
I recently migrated a large amount of data from one computer to another using FreeFileSync. Out of an abundance of caution, I decided to perform a comparison of the data using the option to compare file contents. Out of 3,000+ files FreeFileSync identified 27 files as being different.

Re: Donation edition claiming I already have installed on 12 devices
Update: Maybe I simply did not wait long enough, because it now allowed me to install on the system where I was getting errors. However, I still would be interested in answers on how I can avoid this situation in the future.

Donation edition claiming I already have installed on 12 devices
I specialize in unattended setup of Windows and as a result, I reinstall Windows on my machines frequently. Because of this, FreeFileSync seems to erroneously think that I have the Donation Edition installed on 12 different machines (which I have NOT!).

LOL. Of course there had to be a way to do that already!
Thank you both for the response and such a useful product!

Feature Request: A method to uniquely identify a removable drive when moved to a different computer
If there is already a way to do what I describe below, I would appreciate any info on how to accomplish this.
For removable media such as a USB Flash Drive (UFD), etc. it is possible that the drive letter can change. To work around this, I love the ability of FreeFileSync to use the volume GUID ...

Re: Feature request: The ability to verify files AFTER a sync, not just before
Thanks for the response.
I had completely missed the Verify Copied Files option. That resolves my second scenario.
In my first case what I was hoping for was basically the ability to perform a Compare by Content (just as you noted) after the copy, but to do so automatically after the copy. That ...

Feature request: The ability to verify files AFTER a sync, not just before
Let me explain two real-world scenarios where this would be helpful to me:
1) I ran into a situation recently where I had an SSD drive that was failing on me. This SSD was the target of data that I was syncing from another system using FreeFileSync. I had no idea that I was having any corruption ...

Can sync be started automatically after comparison?
I am synchronizing a directory structure between two computers that contains several hundred thousand files. When I open my sync job, FreeFileSync starts automatically performing a comparison between the two systems. I have to wait for the comparison to finish before I can click on "Synchronize ...

Re: Where do I enter network credentials to sync with a network destination?
Ugh. User error. The access denied was referencing a LOCAL hidden folder. I simply had to create a filter entry to omit this folder that I don't want to sync anyway and that solved the issue.

Where do I enter network credentials to sync with a network destination?
I created a job that would sync from a local folder to a network destination using FFS 11.0.
Nowhere do I see an option to supply a user name and password to connect to the network destination, so, naturally, I get an ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED when I try to perform the sync.

xCSxXenon, that's actually not true. You cannot move it from the system tray to the taskbar. It only shows up in the system tray while active and then disappears altogether. I also fail to see how giving the user an option to display a quick visual glimpse (again, as an option that can be turned on ...

Possible bug: Unable to exclude files with "!" as first character of name
I have a naming scheme in which I name certain files and folders with an "!" as the first character. These are special files and folders that I do NOT want synced to another location. In the past, when I used Robocopy to sync all my files, I would simply exclude all files that start with "!" in my ...
