Re: Timesync
I don't know what the problem is but do notice that the time difference of the files is exactly one hour for all instances on view. And that suggests to me that FFS is operating as it should be. It would also suggest to me that some other part of your father's system has gone and adjusted the time-s...

Re: Two ways synchronised
If FFS does not know what to do, and you don't tell FFS what to do (where the user resolves the conflict), I would guess (but never tried ...) FFS does nothing; i.e. leave both the left- and right-version of the file intact (as un resolved conflict). Yes I just tested this, setting up two files wit...

Re: Two ways synchronised
Thanks very much for the clarification, Plerry. As said I only did a test of two-way myself and didn't know all ins and outs. Hence, was only trying to help with my limited experience. (The path to Hell is paved with good intentions. Where's the blushing emoji?!) However, what you're saying about 5c...

Re: Two ways synchronised
I haven't used two-way sync other than for brief testing purposes but as best as I can see it works like this: In the FFS interface you have a right side and left side. Two-way sync operates like this if you are using "File time and size" option for the comparison method: (1) If you delete...

Thanks, Zenju. Tested and works as you suggest. Out goes my dummy file - Yippee!
I'd second your view on Plerry's dogged and quick responses to forum questions - at least he answers mine and with great patience when required. Great asset to the forum.

Re: Mirror Sync - Create a Folder but Don't Copy Files into It?
Thanks very much for the response, Plerry. I'm disappointed to find that FFS won't create what would effectively be an empty folder on the right-side. That said, I'm relieved to see that the 'problem' wasn't caused by me writing a naff exclude filter. I've got round this by putting a small 'dummy' t...

Mirror Sync - Create a Folder but Don't Copy Files into It?
I have the following folder in my exclude list for a mirror sync (one-way): \PORTABLES\SomeProgram\cacheV3\groups\* In setting that up I was hoping that on doing the sync the folder "groups" would be copied/created on the right-hand side - but the files in the folder would not be copied ov...

Re: Existing File newer Version + Suffix
Maybe try the "Versioning" feature of FFS: Versioning It might not be the exact solution that you are looking for but experiment with it for a while and see if fits your needs. Before you experiment with it you might do well to read this thread to avoid some common mistakes with versioning...

Re: FreeFileSync for windows 64?
Now that I've looked into this a little closer I have the following question: On my system FreeFileSync_x64.exe is auto-launched by FreeFileSync.exe. However, If I look in Windows Task Manager it shows that both those programs are running for the duration of my session with FreeFileSync_x64.exe. Why...

Re: FreeFileSync for windows 64?
Just go here FreeFileSync Download and download the Windows Setup file. When it installs it will install an executable for Windows 64 - just look in the folder you installed FFS to and you will see a folder called "Bin", look in there and you will see the "FreeFileSync_x64.exe". ...

Suggestion to Improve RealTimeSync
OS = Windows 7 Pro. x64 SP1 RealTimeSync Build: Apr 16 2017 - Unicode x64 I tried RealTimeSync for the first time today to see if I could help someone that was having problems with it. As part of doing that I created a ".ffs_batch" file to use with RealTimeSync. Once I had finished the tes...

Re: RAMDISK Error
I think it might be your ramdisk software that is at fault - or there is some configuration element of your ramdisk that is causing the problem. For years I've used SoftPerfect Free ramdisk (it recently went pay-ware). I've just tested on my system with SoftPerfect v3.4.8 what you were trying to do ...

Re: Questions About Versioning
Thanks again, Plerry. Mmm...? I'm stuck again. I need to check this concept of exclude filters and how they are being applied. I think I can see that if one was doing a Two-Way sync then, yes, the exclude filter settings would apply to both left and right. I can see that (assuming I'm right in my th...

Re: Questions About Versioning
The next FFS version will show a warning if the versioning folder is contained in one of the two synchronized folders ( and has not been excluded via filter ). I'm finding that a little confusing, Zenju. So question is: When dealing with the Mirror variant are you implying that it is possible to wr...

Re: Questions About Versioning
Thanks, Plerry, that is a bit clearer and things are starting to gel a bit over how Versioning might work. I'll have to mull it over for while though. (I'm finding that conceptually I'm needing a whole new way of thinking about backups and how to do them, that is so different from my old way of thin...

Re: Is FFS Case-Sensitive with Folder and File Names?
Thanks again, Plerry. I'll experiment with this a bit when I get a bit more time. I'm on Windows system and just wonder if I rename a source file to "ThisFile" (making no other modifications to the file) and that file already exists in a backup but with the title "thisfile" then ...

Re: Questions About Versioning
Okay, Plerry, thanks very much for the response. It seems a little clearer now though I'm still scratching my head over why FFS was trying to delete previous versioning folders and files. I'm thinking it shouldn't be trying to do that at all. In my mind it defeats the purpose of versioning. The only...

Is FFS Case-Sensitive with Folder and File Names?
Could someone please tell me if FFS is case-sensitive with respect to folder and file names when it is backing-up files/folders? Is "ThisFolder" treated as being equivalent to "thisfolder" (and other variations on the theme)? Is "ThisFile" treated as being equivalent to...

Questions About Versioning
This is my first post in the forum so hello there. My needs as far as backing-up goes are pretty simple. Last Sunday of each month just backup my data to USB HDDs. I have been doing this manually for years - because I didn't know any better - and it was hard-work. Then I stumbled across the possibil...
