Re: Want To Run RealTimeSync as an administrator and also as a service
Well, good guess, "I don't know what I'm doing." I've been using it for quite awhile. Not all the time but when frustration gets to a peak. I don't know why when I own the device, I set it up with me as administrator that I have to be told I can't do thls and I can't do that, when the functions are ...

Re: Want To Run RealTimeSync as an administrator and also as a service
I am by no means one who has all the answers, heck I'm lucky to figure things out for myself. But in your case, if it were me 2 things I'd do. I'd right click on whatever you run from, whether be the Start Icons, or wherever you run the .exe and select Run As Administrator. Also and maybe more ...

It's a small thing. Doesn't minimize or go away after RUN
Hello and thanks for getting this far.
Somehow in the course of reinstalling FreeFileSync I don't get the GUI to go away after a successful Run. It's runs from a scheduled task, very well. But there it is, hanging on the desktop when done.
As I said it's a small thing. I'm not sure I'm finding how ...

alwaysfroosh, I can't believe I was googling the same question here in 2022 and found my original post from 2015 asking the same thing. Then I see you posted a solution just this past Jan 2022 to my 2015 post. Now that dedication. lol

Re: Notification sound has quit?
OH, one other thing I had to change back. I had set it to run daily in Task Scheduler. It didn't like that and said 'administrator refused request' I had to change it back to 'Run One Time' as the Tutorial Video here teaches to run repeatedly, in my case every 30 minutes. All's good~

Re: Notification sound has quit?
Adding a Comparison Sound seems to have done nothing.
Following the link you gave therube and changing to [ AutoClose="false" ] brought the completion sound back.
Thanks greatly. Is there anywhere for kudo's here, etc? In any case thanks for the great help!!!

Notification sound has quit?
That notification sound is not a necessity. But it was working and now it's not. When I click on the "test" play button it plays. So it knows where to find it. It's just stopped?
Does anyone have a clue what happened here?
Thanks! jack ":-\\

Re: Is is common to have this in Task Manager after just 2 runs?
You know I gotta say . . . I think changing that auto-close did it. It's been running every 30 mins for a few hours and there's no piling up of instances in Task Manager. I believe you've resolved it. I'll watch it more tomorrow but it seems fixed!! ty . . . much! jack ":-Dx

Re: Is is common to have this in Task Manager after just 2 runs?
I am not certain what you mean by running them as SYSTEM, I think they are being run as Administrator, yes, Task Scheduler reports Admin. I changed the batch file. Let's see if that takes. Thanks again!

Re: Anyway to disable sync.ffs_lock file creation?
Yes, just a snip. It's running, I guess it's stopping the lock files. But I haven't stopped if from running. I am going to the next answer which is about the multiple listings in Task Manager and see what you are recommending there. ty so kind for your help to this point! ":-Dx

Is is common to have this in Task Manager after just 2 runs?
I had 10 times this much and I think when I disabled the task scheduler they went away. Not sure. But back a a clean slate it's starting it again. Is this normal to keep piling these process up in Task Manager?

Should it look like this when I'm done to disable lock files. I am obviously not as geeky as I'd like to be or are you all are. This is what I've done . . . . of course it can be undone.

Re: Anyway to disable sync.ffs_lock file creation?
xCSxXenon: extreme ignorance here. Covid has eaten my brain. :-\\ How do you edit the settings of a program if it is closed before you edit it? Is it a separate file in the program folder? I checked. And if I try to edit the _batch file it opens FFS. Thanks for putting in here for us!

Re: Anyway to disable sync.ffs_lock file creation?
I am not seeing a Global Settings in my FreeFileSync folder. And by reading the expert settings it's not clear to me but I'm not an expert? I delete the lock file and it comes right back. This started out of the clear blue when it had been running well all along?

It appears that Warning about Operator/Administrator I mentioned above is not bogus. Something is stopping it from running auto. Manual, fine, auto, no?

Re: Runs okay within FFS program / Not as a task
Okay thanks. Plerry has helped a lot to get me here. So you are saying I haven't over used the quotes, everything is okay as you see it? I can run this from Task Scheduler, I'm not sure I've seen it run every 10 minutes like the lady in the Tutorial Video says. I'll test that. But wondering about ...

Re: Runs okay within FFS program / Not as a task
Also the Task says, Operator or Administrator has refused the task.
However, I change up some files, made sure they reflected in my Explorer, Ran the task and FFS copied them or mirrored my local drive.

In Task Manager the it appears the space you speak of might be there. I had a snip to show but I don't see an option to post an inline image. So I'll have to type it.

Task Scheduler: The operator or administrator has refused the request (Error 0x800710E0)
Was does this result mean in task scheduler? It seems to make the necessary changes in the destination folder if there are changes to the source folder? But what is this result? Is it something mis-stated in FFS or the Task Scheduler. Is it actually keeping FFS from running? When I manually run the ...

Re: Runs okay within FFS program / Not as a task
I found the answer. In the Tutorial Video the nice lady says in the video on Scheduling, that the Argument, which in my case is a "batch file" must have " " at each end, but apparently only if your batch name has a space. For example, [My backup_batch.ffs] (forget the containers) See that space ...

Runs okay within FFS program / Not as a task
I had a file in this folder, apparently a system file that was for example .849C2293-D346-4E56-8D6E-42412F2A707D
and of course FFS balked and said it's locked by another process. So in creating this batch I excluded it and then mirroring ran fine.
