Request - Progress dialogue

In the progress dialogue, for the Elements remaining statistics, could you please show the total number (and total size) of the files to be copied, as well as the number and size that is remaining at any time. That way, when running FreeFileSync as a batch job, it is easy to see the total number of ...

Re: Sync data associated with particular applications

The data associated with an application will usually have a specific file extension, e.g. .doc for Word documents.

You can use the filter function https://freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=exclude-items to only sync those files.

Check the options that you chose when you set up the batch job: https://freefilesync.org/manual.php?topic=schedule-a-batch-job

I get a FreeFileSync window for all my batch jobs which I'm pretty sure have the settings shown in the first screenshot.

Re: Delete Files In Origin Destination

I don't think that it is possible with FreeFileSync.

The simplest solution is probably to just delete the files using the command line after FreeFileSync has run, or rather than use FreeFileSync, just move the files using the command line.

Re: Mirroring files with Read Only attribute causes "Error Code 5: Access is denied. (BackupWrite)"

I'm still seeing this error with the files that I download with uTorrent. FreeFileSync successfully creates the .ffs_tmp file (I checked the file with a hash, and it was identical to the original), but then seems to run into problems when it wants to change the file name and set the last modified ...

Re: Noobie Questions

What you describe should be possible if you can get FreeFileSync to compile and run on those systems.

But for something as simple as you describe, why wouldn't you just use rsync to synchronise the files and cron to run rsync on your desired schedule. Both rsync and cron and already in Raspbian ...

Re: Mirroring files with Read Only attribute causes "Error Code 5: Access is denied. (BackupWrite)"

I just tried copying these files manually to the target location and then running a second synchronisation on them. Synchronising from the second location, even though they are still read only, completed without problems. So it looks like it is something to do with the way that uTorrent creates the ...

Re: Mirroring files with Read Only attribute causes "Error Code 5: Access is denied. (BackupWrite)"

Did anything ever happen with this?

I see this error when I try and backup the LibreOffice installer files that I download with uTorrent. I've checked the properties for these files to see if they are NTFS Sparse (see above), but there was nothing obvious there to say that they were.

Hello Dom and thank you for your reply.
So, if I get this right, you are suggesting a solution outside FreeFileSync: To create a .bat file that will copy all the files out of their subfolders, right?
I guess this will work just fine, thanks again!
Yes, you'll need to set this up outside ...

Re: Backup files but not their folders

I had a similar problem where I wanted to copy podcasts from the individual podcast folders that iTunes creates to a single folder that I used as a playlist.

I used the for command line command - see https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754900%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

So, in the batch file, I ...

Just for the record, I'm not having any problems with https://freefilesync.org/download.php from the links above and the FreeFileSync web site.

Any chance that your security software is causing the problems?

I'm not sure what's going on, but v6.14 is available from [404, Invalid URL: http://www.fosshub.com/FreeFileSync.html]

Maybe things are going to run out of https://freefilesync.org/download.php much more from now on.

Re: Bug: FFS stumbles over own logfile

If you're running using an administrator account you can set FreeFileSync to copy locked files.

If not, you'll need to exclude the logs from you main back up and set up a separate back up to just do the logs. As you're already running things in a batch, hopefully this won't be too much hassle.

Re: Immediately after updating to 6.4, FFS will not run as a scheduled task.

Yes, it's a show-stopper bug, but it only occurs in a specific scenario (Windows XP + task scheduler) therefore it's not important enough for a new FFS version, but so easy to fix so that there is no need to wait for 6.5.Zenju
Thanks Zenju!

Yes, so long as both machines are on the same network, e.g. you can share files on one machine and access them from the other one.

If you haven't used this type of programme before I recommend that you have a look at the *# Overview* page in the FreeFileSync help for a brief guide on how to set ...

I have had the same problem with FAT32, both windows and linux (ubuntu 10.04).
Would the same fix work? And most important, does this fix have any collateral effect?
I mean, setting a large file time tolerance looks like a potential problem (i.e., new files not being copied).
Thanks

Re: Files not deleted on right side with time span filter

In Windows you can use forfiles to delete files older than x days. For example, I use:

forfiles /P <Path> /S /M *.mp3 /C "cmd /c echo @file is older than 7 days" /D -7
forfiles /P <Path> /S /M *.mp3 /C "cmd /c del @file" /D -7

to list and then delete files more than 7 days old.

There are more ...
