Hello! I am use FFS for backup a huge amount of data - about 5tb(from NAS). Thus, I can't use one HDD for target. But I can attach to my PC few HDD and use all of it as target. But…

I use the mirror mode. When I synchronize the two path, there is teh information about the total byte copied. It's very useful for me to have the balance of how many bytes are copi…

I am comparing 13TB of data with over 21 million files. It does the compare in 45 minutes ( I do have 32 gigs of ram )

I'm running xubuntu 13.04. The download page offered up the tar.gz version of the program. There were no installation instructions, but I installed it in /usr/local/bin. The progra…

I'm running the tar.gz version of FreeFileSync on Xubuntu 13.04, if that helps. I tried comparing two folders, but need help interpreting the results. Am I missing a doc file? A fe…

YES, I do need it badly. I've many directories and I sort based on dictectory creation dates. I've intention to merge 3 hard disks into one mega hard disk and I really need to know…

Servus, this may be a bit late, but what about a batch file? Here is an example that does what you want. If there are spaces in the path/file name, you will need to use apostrophes…

First of all, FFS is a great tool that greatly eases my daily sync job. I set it up to run automatically w/o any issue. However, there is a thing. If I want to change the Last Modi…

This reminds me of [URL] You can check for error code "3" (Helpfile -> Batch Scripting) to detect the user pressing cancel in a .ffs_batch job.

rofl thanks for that, if I hadn't found this thread, I'd have stopped using FFS! Took me QUITE some time to find that "plus-sign" button, because I had the source-folder on the lef…

Just finished implementing file icons for the preview list: [404, Invalid URL: http://freefilesync.sourceforge.net/FreeFileSync_5.14_Mac_OS_X_64-bit_beta.zip]

FFS is so great to sync! But when the first trying to backup my data from laptop to mobile hard drive I met the above problem "Windows Error Code 5 and 1300" I tried many times and…

Hello, corrently the variable drive letters seem to be fixed to a certain number and not changable; and the logic seems fixed to windows style "letter drives" E: F: and so on. To s…

I can see there is a precompiled distribution available, but the binary works for Ubuntu only AFAICS. It fails to start because it needs "libunity", and Unity comes with Ubuntu onl…

I will release v5.12 later today or tomorrow.

Thank you again, I think it makes sense for us to keep the lock in place because we are in fact going to have people with more than one machine running FFS at the same time. Even t…

[Quote] If it's a 2-way sync and the user has 2 PC's I suppose the user could delete files on one PC and then the recycler issue could pop up on the second PC.

> What did I do wrong Maybe there's something wrong with the hard drive. Just take two files that differ and compare them with a hex-editor. This way you will find out if the diffe…

@dwig I'm using SVN for development work, so I know the concept. The files I'm trying to "backup" are a too many & too big to check in on every upgrade step. (I'm trying to make th…

[Quote] Point taken. Though I must say, the implications of case sensitivity vs. insensitivity are just mind boggling in a multi-platform environment. Gives me a headache. Simply a…

Folder last modification time is not retained (nor considered) by FFS. See also: [404, Invalid URL: https://sourceforge.net/p/freefilesync/feature-requests/318/]

[Quote] Are you using Computer Shutdown scripts? They are run as Local System, and they have the full rights that are associated with being able to run as Local System REF [URL] Do…

No, this needs to be done via Windows Explorer.

If you are talking about "Rwil-WETAG-SAP Schulung.doc", this is not a symbolic link, so the symlink settings do not have any effect. It is however a sparse reparse point, that is n…

FFS never relies on the configuration files to remain the same during execution. Loading of the files basically is as you describe, for both RTS and FFS batch, the config file is r…

> Is the simple solution here to turn on "follow" for symbolic links? We have it off now for some reason, but this might be the simple fix. The solution is to "exclude" symlinks an…

Whoa. Just realised that I have been on an older version. I can see that there is now a lot of guidance in the help file so I will go and study that. Thanks again.

One thing to clarify: the directory we monitor on the share is one that nobody uses, it's basically a flag directory (%synctarget%\online), so that RealTimeSync will only become ac…

Are you using the most recent version of FreeFileSync? The error message should say which application is locking the file (if possible)

There's a way to do this with a single configuration: Use two folder pairs, but specify the same source and target folder names. Then exclude this file from the first folder pair, …

After a system rebuild and partial upgrade was hoping to be able to run FreeFileSync from linux rather than the vmware windows session which is what I was previously doing. However…

When selecting binary comparison, the tool automatically switches the middle grid to "category view", because it assumes you only want to compare both sides without a sync. Just sw…

It's not clear what you mean with "exclude"; you need to scan each file once in order get its name. Only then you know whether it should be processed or not. This is what FFS does,…

Thank You! I can't afford much right now, but hopefully I can come back and give more again in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks! I looked but couldn't tell that it was there. Thanks!

Yes, it's basically the same. But the versioning naming convention changed with v5.7, see: [URL]

So far so good, that is looking much better! Now I need to have a play with the file versioning stuff for the home backup...

Some things on Linux an only be learned the "hard" way ;)

Thanks for immediate reply, and for yr great suggestion that will certainly solve my problem. Have a good day

In fact it doesn't really matter if you install "local" or portably, in both cases the same files will be copied, but "local" will create "uninstall.exe" in addition. On startup FF…

I have the same issue. It leaves the FFS directories on one of the sides, then gives the exact message you describe. I set it to iignore errors: 1. Windows 2007 x64 2. Run as Admin…

I'm thinking FFS would be a nice tool to do *like* a workstation backup of a machine prior to reformatting. Unlike Window's File/Settings transfer though, I want to sync all local …

Thanks for the reply, I did some testing to see this all in action. I used Process Explorer to look at the environment var you set in RealTimeSync and yes, it's there. I made a sin…

Very great. Thank you for wonderful software :)

If I had OSX to run it in a VM, I could see to assemble a Mac version *wink*

I'll post to this thread what I posted on [URL]. I too prefer to have versions of the same file in the same folder instead of spread across different time-stamped folders. I create…
