FreeFileSync Forum

Thanks you this is very helfpul

Thank you for your reply. It works with beta version 14.8.

I don't think it's a good idea to show important information (as base folders is) only when hovering at them. However I wonder why you didn't give that simple answer at first place…

(IMO) If ones Compare is Time & Size, one is much more likely to run into situations where Time & Size (with size displayed as KB...) that you may end up questioning why a update t…

[URL] You can also use a disk space analyzer to get more detailed information. I use WizTree on Windows and it shows size and space on disk, which is probably where your mismatch i…

An FFS Compare+Sync only starts at times that you manually start such Compare +Sync, e.g. from the FFS GUI or by double-clicking a saved *.ffs_batch configuration, or at times that…

FFS is not a bitrot detection utility. Sure, you can probably spend enough time hacking together a solution that accomplishes such a thing, but there are tools made for this task s…

Desktop is a default folder in a user's "home" directory for probably every single OS out there. Deleting it is likely to cause issues

I got a replay on the github page. Correct is the following command: [Code]

XC and Plerry, thank you for the reply, very much appreciated. Onto the setup for the project. Cheers

> The slowdown is much more likely the overhead on the metadata overhead, **but this still wouldn't be solved by syncing into a compressed directory either** I disagree. The import…

I also want to install the donation version to docker on my NAS. There is a docker version for the normal FreeFileSync Version: [URL] and there is also a feature request for it: [U…

Thanks Plerry and xCS. I could, I suppose, use a utility to append the genre. Maybe Advanced Renamer will do that - I will check it out. But it would be a nuisance with 15,000 file…

What you are asking for (a date range) is already there: [URL]. Your mentioned "X previous days" is however not available, other than by You can setting the upper date as far in th…

Hello, I am writing to follow up on my previous emails regarding the Tax Residency Certificate for the year 2025 related to our purchase of FreeFileSync. I have already contacted y…

Thanks for your reply. I agree that we have all the information we need to manage and control the definition settings, clearly presented through the application and its menus, and …

I second this feature. To provide some context: I work on Unity projects. These have a folder called Library. This folder contains hundreds of thousands of files that are not cruci…

Hmm that sounds painful. I can see why you would care about folder timestamps being preserved but I am glad that I don't. :)

FFS should detect that it is abandoned and delete it automatically. You can also delete it manually. If you aren't able to, check permissions on the file. If you still can't, are y…

I use two backup hard drives that are simultaneously - automatically updated - in the background - with data from my system drive. Data carriers tend to give up one day, with the c…

CTRL-N is the shortcut for "new" configuration, which 'blanks' FFS, aka sets settings to defaults and clears paths. FFS has mixed multi-instance support. The syncs work fine, but t…

There is a clear reason why sync.ffs_db files are excluded by default. The contents of the sync.ffs_db files is specific to each of the base locations involved in a sync. Copying s…

The only way to get Google-specific file formats off of Google Drive is to convert them into different formats (as you suggested). Problem is, this isn't really a "synchronization"…

With the addition of [URL] results, I wanted a way to parse the JSON without PowerShell. It seemed impossible, which is why I tried, and yes PowerShell is simpler. BUT, PowerShell …

+1 for that kind of feature request. It is very time- and resource-wasteful to sync 100+ GB files. Block-level syncing would be a great feature.

Contact whoever maintains it, FFS doesn't have an official Homebrew release and their commit history shows manual fixes to SHA256

Oh awsome, thank you for the quick and helpful response.

You’re all very helpful, and I’m thankful. But, once again, you must admit these solutions are both intricate, time-consuming and definitely not user-friendly ! I found a software …

> Also I miss (at least I do not see it anywhere) option to duplicate existing task, where I would change the name and just the source location / folder. Simply open an existing sa…

I'm actually not quite sure how I fixed it, but it's working like it did before. THANKS AGAIN!

Thanks, Xenon! That is encouraging. Anything under 10 minutes is golden. I will give this a shot! Thanks again! We are talking several million files, though. Like 20 or 30 million.

Yeah the sata to usb adapter probably isn't great and may not be fully compatible with how Windows manages a disabled write cache. The drive itself is a Seagate Ironwolf which are …

T'hanks, xCSxXenon. I installed the beta in a different folder, but it seems to have broken the 14.5 donation version. I guess I will just use the beta version unless I run into a …

Supported with FreeFileSync 14.6! [URL]

FreeFileSync (FFS) does not sync its "own" system files, sync.ffs_lock and sync.ffs_db. FFS also has an [URL]. The Exclude Filter is pre-filled with some entries corresponding to i…

This sounds like a self-created problem. Within the specified versioning location(s), FreeFileSync (FFS) retains the folder structure relative to the left and right base location(s…

Thanks. Not beautiful but functional ;)

Thanks, this worked perfectly! (I had been looking in sync settings; it had been so long since I'd set up the online storage settings I didn't even think to look there. Yeah, I kno…

Currently users can choose at Tools > Options > Default log folder: the exact folder where logs are to be kept. But there is no such option for the DMP files - and thus the Desktop…

Some (default) settings are in Tools | Options. I'll assume you're loading a (pre)existing .ffs_batch? After you make changes, you'll need to re-save it (to have it reflect the new…

ok thanks! now it makes sense :)

@bgstack15 Thanks for the reply! Your setup looks way more professional than mine. I’m just a beginner, so I really appreciate you sharing your method — learned a lot from it! [Quo…

I, too, would be very grateful if FFS started supported parallel copying from one source to multiple destinations. Nemo file manager (from Linux Mint) does not support it, too, it …

I am the first to assume user error. I'm a computer illiterate. But in this case, the program ran just fine one day and didn't the next. As far as I know I made no changes to any "…

I'd be interested in a few more details. Are you transferring from HD to HD or PC to NAS for example ?

> Of course when I do as you suggest, the syncs are still done sequentially, not simultaneously. Not correct. When running the sync, the proposed sync actions of multiple left-righ…
