FreeFileSync Forum

There is nothing for the user to do. FreeFileSync detects and syncs files/folders differing in case. Unless there are conflicts, as Plerry mentioned.

I understand. Under the circumstances, that's exactly what I want. It would be nice, though, if that was one of the options when setting up a backup, so it could be set up individu…

Better, consistent and centralized promotion of the app among Linux distribution, among other things. I invite you to read the specs.

Been a feature for years and isn't related to RTS, but rather your FFS configuration. FFS doesn't change anything on its own, so somebody was clicking in the configurations setting…

You are talking about two different things. Reading/writing every byte on the disk is referred to as a "refresh". This functionality is best done at a hardware level, not a file-sy…

From the [URL]: [Quote] So, it is OK to have it installed on more than one computer. But I believe there is a built-in check on (excessive) distribution.

No, the "Stop" button interrupts file copying, unlike "Pause", which completes all pending file transfers first. [Quote] No this won't happen (unless you disable fail-safe file cop…

I don't know anything of Dropbox, but does the section on [URL] apply?

Actually, all my testing was done with the free version. As I noted in my original post, the free version is fine for this purpose, but it exhibits the described issue. But thank y…

That was not the issue. If FFS is installed into C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync, and I executed the direct access from the desktop (I suppose it is the 32 version) , ffs can’t creat…

I have created several batch files to synch various directories to different HDDs and I have specified that each batch file runs at different times. It would be informative to me t…

SSDs don't fail in the same way that spinning platters do. Even if a sector scan shows fine, there may be other issues. What does the SMART data show?

You've likely told FFS not to show you that warning anymore. You can reset these flags in the options "Show hidden dialogs and warning messages again:"

@tangofan A creative solution! As you can see, there is often more than one way to skin a cat ...

That sounds really good, thank you, I will give it a try.

Thank you!! that completely solves any possible confusion.

The program controlling a Move operation can make it very safe by Copy/Check/Delete, so no reason not to have a Move option on security grounds. The reason for requesting it in FFS…

Thanks, any suggestions for creating system backups (bootable and incremental) ?

Perhaps the same answer as, [URL] - I don't really know? Or a search here for "onedrive" might turn up more?

Hi, I use ffs with Dropbox. You need an open source app called rclone. Use it to map/mount a drive letter in Windows to your Dropbox account. You can use NSSM to install rclone as …

thank you, that seems to be EXACTLY what I am looking for :) thank you

Dear Forum Colleagues, Among the Sync/Bckp Apps that I have tested - over the decades that I have been dealing with computer systems (I come from the "old" MS-DOS) -, including "tr…

Hi guys, So I was doing a Mirror operation, basically moving all my data from one hard disk to another, so it was TBs of data. I left it overnight and when I got up the AMD graphic…

> Regarding file version control, is it possible to create a save destination in each folder instead of in one location? Nope! FFS always versions files that are deleted from or ov…

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Hello, I am testing FFS and I found stopped jobs with errors. (attached) Jobs (Sync - Update) are run via Task Scheduler and have checked "Ignore all errors". Files are copied from…

I setup my WD 2100 to have FTP access. Then went to the office and accessed the FTP. Once I found I had access, I setup FFS to backup certain files to the FTP. Everything worked gr…

Since I am not a Linux user, please excuse my ignorance ... but in case it is possible, I thought I would ask... One of my uses for FreeFileSync is to sync my NAS to external drive…

Ok, thank you.

So this is a feature. Thank you for your reply, Zenju. Topic is solved.

So, S3 or the protocol the tool you use to mount S3 does not support retaining dates. If you only need to sync local => S3, you could use the Update sync variant, instead of the Mi…

That is not what FFS is designed for, not possible

The file is moved, so retransmitting will only be required if the versioning location requires it. Locations within the same network share, usually, don't need data to be retransmi…

FFS reports the problem when trying to write (a version of) the sync.ffs_db file to your FTP location. This means you have now checkmarked the "Use database to detect changes" opti…

Another option that worked for me: Renaming folders that contain a massive amount of files or large files can trigger extreme copy/delete updates to be suggested, potentially invol…

I'll echo this request. I would like to have the option to delete the file after successful sync.

Please no double posting: [URL]

After renaming a job, one must of course resave the .ffs_batch file if applicable. Maybe the job could also remember the save location of the batch file and rename it with a dialog…

[Quote] This is probably correct also. I hadn't opened RTS since the update so I didn't even realize that it also has dark mode lol

Yes, that is what I used to do but then MS/Google switched over to Oauth 2.0 secure authorization, and now there is no simple way to "emailmecopyoflogfile". I've tried PowerShell w…

Bad/failing storage device is my first guess

@Plerry thank you for the info

I guess you know how long it takes to understand foreign source code. If you give me a pointer to the place i have to change (may be several places) I will take a look.
